Winchester Mansions LocationWinchester Mansion
Everything about staying at the Winchester mansions is very special!
It's such a special place to be, which is why maybe, the little things stand out so much.
The curtains that don't close fully, the hot and cold taps in the shower that are the wrong way around that led to a surprise on the first night, or the shower nossle that's loose in the wall and doesn't really adjust, and then the loose toilet seat! But that, essentially, is it! For the rest, I could not recommend this hotel enough. We stayed in a classic sea-view junior suite which, beside the mentioned inconsistencies, was glorious! On the first floor above the very popular Harvey's patio bar, I though that we were going to be in for a bit of a battle, but the double glazed windows, that when opened gave us the most spectacular views of the promenade and Ocean, locked out all the sounds of the bar and the busy street below. It would be great if the furniture in this little area enabled one to sit at the window and take in the view?
This is a busy little Hotel, but one never feels it, the ease and "life" of the venue always giving you that exclusive boutique feel.
Breakfast in the courtyard with it's bougainvillaea, fountain and umbrellas is sublime, or swopping it out for the front patio watching life passing along the ocean's edge, just as much.
Breakfast was always good with a buffet that has everything but not wasteful, which has always bothered me about buffet tables. The coffee flows generously and there's even vegetarian yoghurt! a BIG plus in my book.
It's location, location, location, and The Winchester Mansions has it in spades. Just across an albeit busy street is a stop for the Red City Sightseeing Tour bus. Here you can catch the Red City Tour bus, or the Blue Mini Peninsula route, or mix and match as you like.
Just a little further up or down, are MyCiti bus stops, but careful here, it's a complicated system at first as the drivers cannot take cash, it works on a card system, but once you've worked it out, it works great! The hotel does have a complimentary shuttle service to the Waterfront, but being a busy little hotel, it's generally off doing an airport transfer or something, so unavailable! There is also always UBER!
The hotel is on the Sea Point promenade, which is the perfect spot for walking, running, cycling or whatever else strikes your fancy, and is one of the great spots for watching a glorious sunset.
